How we design the system
Garages and outbuildings are designed for spot comfort. A single radiant heater aimed at the workbench or car bay delivers usable warmth without trying to raise air temperature in an uninsulated shell, and a second heater is added only where two working positions are used at once. Mounting keeps output clear of stored fuel, paint and anything flammable, and the supply is checked first because many garages run from a single lightly loaded circuit. Controls are deliberately simple: a boost timer, so the heater cannot be left running after the door closes.
What it costs to run
In an uninsulated garage, any attempt to hold air temperature is expensive and largely pointless. Spot radiant heating for the hour or two you are actually in there is cheap, and insulating the door and roof cuts the requirement further. If the garage is being converted into a room, the sizing changes completely and should be done after insulation, not before, or you end up paying for output that better fabric would have made unnecessary.
