Infrared heating in Yorkshire
Yorkshire splits cleanly into two heating markets: gas-connected cities and towns, and a large rural belt across the Dales, Moors and Wolds where mains gas simply is not available. The right answer is different in each, and this page sets out both honestly.
Is infrared heating worth it in Yorkshire?
In rural Yorkshire it frequently is, because the realistic alternatives are oil, LPG, solid fuel or ageing storage heaters, all of which carry tanks, deliveries or servicing. In Leeds, Sheffield, Bradford, Hull and York, where mains gas is available and the whole house is heated continuously, gas remains cheaper to run and we will say so.
The rural off-gas-grid belt
Across the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and the Wolds, a large share of property has no mains gas connection. Stone farmhouses, converted barns, hamlet cottages and estate buildings rely on oil tanks and LPG, with winter delivery access a genuine problem on upland lanes.

- Check whether mains gas is genuinely available at the property, not just in the village.

- In stone and solid-wall buildings, ask about fabric measures alongside any heating quote.
- Confirm NICEIC or NAPIT registration and electrical certification.
