How we design the system
Bathroom design is governed by electrical zones. Panels and mirror panels must be rated and positioned for the zone they occupy, with switching outside the room or by pull cord, and everything installed to Part P by a qualified electrician. Mirror panels are popular because they replace a fitting that was already there and stay clear of condensation while running. Sizing accounts for the tiled surfaces that absorb radiant heat before the room feels warm, and a timer with a short morning boost usually delivers comfort more cheaply than any thermostat holding the room warm all day.
What it costs to run
Bathroom heating is a short-duration load: a twenty-minute boost twice a day is a small annual cost even at current electricity prices. That compares well with keeping a towel rail on a wet circuit warm, which often means firing the boiler in summer purely for one radiator. Where a towel rail is the only reason the heating comes on outside winter, replacing it with an infrared panel plus a separate towel warmer usually reduces cost rather than adding to it.
